Life holds many mysteries. As we begin to mature out of childhood, we are faced with many questions and although society and our families do their best to help us to understand the world we live in; we are often haunted with such questions as, where do I come from? Where am I going? As well as, how long do I have to be here? I think all of us, to some degree, have wondered deeply about such issues of life. Here is why I believe that we can trust the Bible to answer these questions for us.

I believe the Bible because it claims to be the inspired word of God, 2 Tim 3:16-17. That means literally, God breathed. God created the words of the Bible through men who wrote as they were divinely directed, 2 Pet 1:21. It is the word of God not of men, 1 Thess 2:13. John Wesley once said that the Bible was either created by good men or by bad men or by God. These are the only possibilities. Since the Bible claims repeatedly that it is inspired of God, good men could not have created it since good men would not have created a book full of lies. Neither could it be created by bad men because bad men would not have created a book which condemned every evil deed in which they were involved. Therefore, the Bible could only have been created by God. His logic is simple yet profound and I believe it is correct.

I believe the Bible because it has scientific foreknowledge. Long before science ever considered such things, the Bible stated that the earth rests upon nothing, Job 26:7, that the shape of the earth was a circle, Isa 40:22, that the winds always travel in a circuit or circle,Ecc 1:6, life is in the blood,Deu 12:23 and on and on.

I believe the Bible because of fulfilled prophecy. Over and over again inspired writers wrote accurately of coming events which were often hundreds of years in the future and often with amazing detail of those events. It is estimated that the Old Testament contains over 400 prophecies of the coming Messiah all fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

I believe the Bible because of the archaeological records which have repeatedly shown the Bible to be an accurate and reliable source of historical events.

And I believe the Bible because of the very existence of the Bible itself. It is such a unique and awesome document. It reads almost like poetry yet has such a complexity that it challenges the mind to comprehend it. It is a book which must be studied to be appreciated and the more we study the more we realize we are not looking into the mind of man but into the mind of God.

The Bible answers all of life’s questions. It teaches us right from wrong, that we came from God and will return to Him each in our own time. We will one day answer to God for the choices we’ve made and the deeds we have done. Mainly, the Bible teaches us that God through Jesus Christ has given us a way to be with Him eternally. It requires that we heed His word, obey His commands and be faithful to Him as long as we live. Yes, I believe the Bible, I hope you do too!!
